At Addiction Education Consultants we believe in treating the client as an individual and addressing their substance abuse problem on a biological, psychological, social, and spiritual level. Although there are certain aspects of addiction that are similar, each person has experiences which are unique to them, as well as underlying contributors and issues that make their experience unique.
We are aware that the 12 Step approach to recovery has been proven effective. As such we incorporate that philosophy into treatment. However, we also understand that treatment needs to be more than simply the 12 Step approach. We understand that addiction is a disease, and that as such it affects the individual's thinking. These distortions in thinking lead to numerous other difficulties. These include difficulties with emotional states, family and social functioning, and even physical difficulties. We believe the key to recovery lies in accepting the nature of the disease, and working to effectively recognize and challenge its affects on thinking, feeling, and functioning.
